Photomontage depicts a wooden canoe with flax mat sails and rudder flies in the sky with a Maori crew. The crew consists of a man steering; a boy in overalls suspended from the back of the canoe; a woman with a baby wrapped to her back and another woman with a little girl at the front. Below is Auckland looking south from the wharves. Mount Eden is on the skyline. Some details have been added by hand eg. spokes of the steering wheel, the flag and some of the structure.
