To'i fafau

To'i fafau. Hafted adze. To'i fafau are a multipurpose tool used to carve wood. The haft is carved from wood and the to'i is attached to the haft with 'afa (sennit) which is then wrapped around the top of the handle. The cross section is trapezoidal in shape, the front narrower than the back. The cutting edge is moderately sharp and straight with a slight bevel. The to'i is dark grey in colour, smooth bevel, top and underside; flaked sides.
