Te iriba
Iriba. Fan. This is a hand held fan. It consists of one material component: kakoko (the young, white central leaf of the coconut). It is flat in form and shaped like a spade motif. The selvedge's of the pinnules make up the handle of the fan. Two peaks make up the top edge of the fan. The sides curve down to a sloped base that meets the handle. The central area of the fan is braided holding the thicker pinnules together. Thin pinnules spread out horizontally and vertically making up the woven mass of the fan. A red earth dyed pinnule of kakoko has been used to decorate the sides and centre of the fan.
