i Roi

human history

i Roi. Fly whisk. Made from composite materials. The i Roi consists of a long liga ni i roi (handle) carved from kau (wood) round in section, with magimagi (coconut sennit) as the whisk. Strands of magimagi are long, tightly braided at the base where they attach to the wooden handle then become loose strands as they flare outwards from the wooden handle. The magimagi is a reddish brown colour. The handle is of a light brown colour, made with two parts of wood that connect together with a metal ring near the centre of the shaft of the handle. The butt of the handle is curved like a 'J'. The surface of the wooden parts are polished.
