Tiupata

Tiupata. Waist garment. This tiupata is possibly used when performing in traditional dancing. It has six 20mm strips of plain fala (pandanus) with possibly black dyed now grey 10mm strips of fala woven through the strips, making an off-centre arrowhead pattern. The brown strips look like they are possibly launiu (young coconut leaf) dyed brown for contrasting effect. Each strip of launiu starts at between 8 - 10 mm then turns into a cylindrical shape through curling. All of which are plaited together with a double thickness of launiu to hold it altogether with plaited ties at each end to tie up the garment.
