Lave lau
Lave lau. Thatching implement. This is a lave lau made of gagie. This lave lau is light brown with a smooth unpolished surface. The lavelau is narrow and cylindrical in shape with pointed ends. Both points have an indent on either side of the needle creating a hook-like appearance. One end of the lave lau is thicker than the other suggesting that the lave lau had multiple uses. Lave lau were used to tie thatching to beams of fale Tokelau (Tokelau house). The lave lau is held by an individual inside the roof and poked through the thatching to secure it.
