I'e. Bark cloth beater. Used for pounding and producing sheets of tapa. Carved from solid ra'au (wood). Long and square in cross section, tapers towards the handle and flares out at the butt-end. Four sided, with three grooved sides, and one plain side. One side of the i'e consists of grooves that are approximately spaced 1mm apart, with another side with grooves approximately spaced .5mm to 1mm apart, and with another side with grooves approximately spaced 1mm to 2mm apart. Chipping along edges, side and butt end of the i'e. Dark brown in colour.
