Civa Vonovono
Civa Vonovono. Breast ornament. The Civa Vonovono is constructed from composite materials. A large circular shell of civa (mother of pearl) dark and iridescent in colour is the base onto which six cut and polished pieces of off-white sui ni tovuto (whale ivory) are attached by a sewing or planking method with fibre cords. These border the central civa. Each of these sui ni tovuto have a serrated edge with the exception of the crowning piece. In the central civa a crescent shaped inlay of sui ni tovuto is visible, attached in the same manner although having a small loss off one corner. Brown coloured wa ni magimagi (a cord of coconut sennit) is attached to the ornament.
