Ike

Ike. Bark cloth beater. Used for pounding and producing sheets of masi (bark cloth). Carved from solid kau (wood). Long and square in cross section with a tapered handle. Four-sided, with three sides with grooves spaced approximately 2mm-3mm apart. There are four lines, zigzagged, incised horizontally across base (top of handle) of grooved sides. A sticker is stuck at the top end of the ike with "E.P Coll Fiji masi Stick" written in dark coloured ink across the sticker. Dark brown in colour.
