Tānoa

Tānoa. Kava bowl. tānoa are used to mix 'ava in as well as to serve and share the 'ava from during ceremonies and special occasions. Made from wood, this tānoa is circular in shape, dark brown in colour, smooth and polished. It has 18 legs, cylindrical in shape that are evenly spread around the base of the Tānoa. Between two of the legs there is a lug with a suspension hole and 'afa (sennit) threaded through it. This is to hang it up for storage and also to indicate the back side of the Tānoa.
