Ike. Beater for tapa (barkcloth). Carved from rakau (wood). Long and rectangular in shape with four flat sides for beating tapa. The length of the beating surfaces on two sides are carved in fine grooves, one side carved with three deep grooves, widely spaced. One side is carved with moderately fine grooves, with one area of shallow loss. One end of the ike is carved to grip in the hand comfortably, flaring slightly at butt end. Cord of puru akari (coconut sennit) tied to the grip. Dark brown colour.
