Te mwae
Te mwae. Neck ornament. This is a Neck ornament made from three material components: te kora (coconut sennit fibre cordage), te moromoro (glass beads) and te buangui (whale ivory). The neck band is made of a two-ply te kora. It has been used to thread a series of small blue glass beads that range in two tones from light to dark. A series of round almond shaped pendants line the Neck ornament. These are made of te Buangui whale ivory and have been carved into this form to imitate teeth similar to that of wiin te kua kewe (porpoise teeth).
