'Ava

'Ava. Kava root. Una o i'a sā. Smaller pieces of kava root. 'Ava (kava) is the general term for the entire plant in all its different forms as well as its by-product. 'Ava is usually ground into a powder like form, which is then mixed with water to make a beverage which is served in 'ava ceremonies and other formal gatherings. There are 15 small pieces of 'ava that are all strung onto a wire, possibly illustrating how they are stored. The pieces of 'ava are all completely dried out and are tan and light brown in colour.
