Titi

human history

Titi. Arrow. This titi is made of composite materials. A long, thin shaft of gasau (reed) is fitted with a sharpened point of kau niu (palm wood) forming the mata ni gasau (arrowhead). A short length of plant fibre is wrapped around the join to prevent splitting of the gasau shaft. The gasau and mata ni gasau components are round in section, straight, and undecorated. The tail end of the gasau shaft is notched in a shallow U shape for the string of a dakai (bow) to fit. The gasau shaft is natural in colour, while the mata ni gasau is medium brown in colour.
