Pare eva

Pare eva. Mask. Made of tapa (barkcloth) that is pulled over a wooden and metal frame. The tapa is decorated with motifs painted in black dye. Conical in shape with three finials. Bundles of kiriau (hibiscus fibre) decorate each finial. Three elliptical slits are cut out to form the eyes and the mouth. Kiriau braided into iri-taki-toru (3-ply plait) with multiple loose strands of kiriau draping the sides and back of the pare eva. Strips of tapa dangle from the bottom of the pare eva, with a tuft of hair, possibly human hair, also interwoven into the bottom of the pare eva.
