i Ula. Throwing club. i Ula are carved from the rootstock of a hardwood tree. It is intended as a weapon that can be gripped in the hand or thrown in short range distances at assailants. This i Ula consists of a bulbous ball-shaped  head and  long, slender adjoining handle. The head is round and smooth and carved to a slight peak at its top centre. A fine crack is visible on the underside of the head as well as at its peak. Three notches at three areas along the side of the head. The handle is cylindrical in shape and flares slightly towards the butt, which is chipped in two places and has a small puncture hole at its centre. A notch is incised on the side of the handle towards the top end, and along the shaft of the handle are two incised rings around the circumference of the handle towards the lower end that run parallel to each other. The i Ula is dark in colour and has a glossy patina.
