Pautoa

Anave. Paddle shaped club. Anave is a type of club that resembles an oar or a paddle. Anave were used by men and warriors during time of combat and warfare. This anave is made from wood, is cylindrical in shape and deep rich brown in colour. At the base of the handle there is a flat pointed protrusion that has a hole drilled in it, perhaps to hang the club for storage. in-between the top of the handle and the club head, there are three spikes which point outwards on either side. The club head is shaped like an oar and has alternating plain and decorated sections from bottom to the top. These decorations consist of triangles and other geometric patterns that have been carved into the wood and at one point could have been inlaid with coloured pigments.
