Fibre skirt

human history

Fibre skirt. This is a waist garment made of dried pandanus and hibiscus baste. Pandanus fibre has been woven to form the belt and the loose selvedge that forms the length of the skirt. A coloured decorative strand borders the belt and above, a range of purple dyed and natural coloured folded shapes align the woven belt. Amongst the loose selvedge are wider pieces of hibiscus fibre dyed in purple and brown alongside pandanus strips in green and yellow. There are two braided fastenings attached to the top corners of the garment.
