'Ato

'Ato. Basket. This is a handwoven 'ato. It has been woven to form a short sided square with an opening at the top and a single 'au (handle) attached at opposites sides. It is double layered. The interior lining and spine of the 'au has been woven and strengthened with lau paogo (stiff pandanus leaf). The same has been applied to the base and a pattern of dyed lau paogo has been incorporated creating a dark brown geometric border. The exterior and cover of the 'au has been woven with lau fala in both a natural colour and dark brown dyed colour.
