Shark tooth implement

human history

Shark tooth implement. A carved handle or shaft made of wood with a singular shark's tooth lashed with coconut sennit cord to the head. Lashing is threaded through two drilled holes in the tooth and two drilled holes in the wooden, handle's head. The handle terminates to a soft point at the butt. There is a protruding ring detail carved in the upper half of the handle. The shaft has an ovoid cross-section. The head of the handle has a "V" shaped, carved protrusion detail along each face making the head appear more quadrangular in cross section. There is a single hole drilled (not original) on the reverse face of the head. The wood is of medium density and colour and has a polished finish.
