Reru

Reru. Pounder. Carved from a single piece of pohatu maori (basalt). Reru, or penu. Use for pounding/mashing food or ingredients for producing dyes. Rounded pounding surface. Reduction from base to form cylindrical grip. Top of pounder has slight grooves on either side. Conical in overall shape. Gifted in 1955.
