Gladstone bag.

Belonged to Joseph Newman, the first chairman of the Auckland Sharebrokers Association formed in 1872.

Leather portmanteau. Metal frame, hinged at sides. Leather handle. Lockable handle at centre of frame. Lined with cream canvas.

A maker's mark is in the interior of the bag of illegible gold text in blue oval.

There are handwritten numbers on the lining of the bag.

A serial number is on the lock mechanism: R2470830
