Tamaka
Tamaka. Sandal. This is the beginning of a sandal made from the aerial roots of the baan te kaina (Pandanus). It is fibrous. A small rectangular shaped section has been woven from the coiled fibres. One side of the woven shape features two thick loops of fibre. The opposite features four thick nd fibrous strands that have been left loose then lightly knotted towards the selvedged ends. These are long in length and have been coiled together with the woven form. Most of the fibre strands are off-white in colour with the exception of one particular fibrous strand in a dark brown.
