i Wau Totokia
i Wau Totokia. Battleaxe. Carved from a single piece of kau (wood), with the tolo ni wau (body of the club) and the liga ni wau (handle of the club), round in cross-section. There is a teki ni wau (rounded butt end) at the end of the liga ni wau. The neck of the tolo ni wau is curved extending to the ulu ni wau (head of the club). The ulu ni wau is round in shape, resembling a pineapple fruit or the fruit of a pandanus tree, and is covered with 8 rows of studs, with a beak protruding, approximately 125mm long. There is a braid of magimagi (coconut sennit) woven out in tali tlou (3-ply), wrapped and knotted around the upper end of the tolo ni wau. Dark red brown in colour.
