Omore

human history

Omore. Spear. Carved from ra'au (hardwood) into a long cylindrical shaft with a double carved flange preceding the matai (spear head) which is diamond in section and carved into a flat diamond-shaped blade. The blade has a raised central ridge running the length of the blade, both sides. A crack in the wood is visible on the side edge of the blade. The two carved flanges are incised with a repeated chevron pattern, with a loss from one of the flanges. The omore is dark in colour with a glossy patina.
