Parahu

human history

Parahu. War club. Carved from ra'au (hardwood) into a long cylindrical shaft that tapers out to a spatulate head. The shaft is slightly warped and the smooth surface of the wood is slightly rippled. A cuff of woven sennit fibre around the grip. The butt flares into a rounded shape, ovoid in section. The nape (sennit fibre) is fragile and is being held together with brown ribbon. The surface of the wood at the grip end is patchy, matte, and uneven in colour tone. Overall, the rest of the omore is dark brown in colour and has a glossy patina.
