Akau tekaika
human history
Akau tekaika. Rod implement used in fishing. This is a length of kafika wood (type of wood material found in Niue) that has been carved into a cylindrical rod. It is of a mid tone brown and shows some fine grain lines upon close inspection. A noose would accompany this implement in catching fish. Tatau is a type of fishing technique that involves both a noose and akau tekaika.
