Te kora

human history

Te kora. Coconut sennit cordage. Te kora is made from benu (processed coconut husk fibre). Te kora is rolled on the thigh into a 2-ply twisting process to create longer lengths of cordage. These are used for a range of purposes. This sample is of a golden brown colour. It is refined in process that the kora is thin in diametre. Its entire length is of the 2-ply style of kora where a knot has been made to fasten any loose strands of benu together. One end features a small loop of benu and the other end has been left loose. It has been stored as a coil.
