Te bakabaka
Te bakabaka. Clamshell pounder. This is a pounder. It is an implement used in preparing food or fibre. It has been carved from te aubunga (tridacna gigas; clam shell). It is cylindrical in form with a convex base. Its cylindrical form then tapers towards the top surface of te bakabaka. Majority of the surface texture is smooth. Two, straight vertical furrows run from the top of te bakabaka to the base. Fragments are missing from the top and the base shows dark brown residue defining the porous surface texture. The residue shows where contact was made when in use. Its underlying colour is an off-white.
