Te mwae
Te mwae. Neck ornament. This is a Neck ornament made of small red snail shells and string. The shells feature a spire, a belly and an aperture where a small perforation has been drilled through. String has been threaded through the perforations to form te mwae. The spire ends point outwards and alternate in direction along te mwae. It is very light in weight. Each shell upon close inspection portrays light coloured lines defining the spire and vary in red tones. It has been fastened to form a complete neck ornament. Several shells with small perforations of the same type have been presented unattached to this neck ornament.
