Bwara

human history

Bwara. Plaited hat. Made to use as an eyeshade. This hat is made from dried baa ni kaina (pandanus leaves), which were stripped down to small pieces and woven together. Its entirety is in the shape of a squared, horizontal hat with an envelope-type interior. A cross-sectional opening is created on base of hat between opposite vertices. One edge on the opening is noticeably thicker. This opening is intended for the hat to be pulled over the head. A thin chin strap, made of plaited baa ni kaina fibres, is suspended into the roof of hat through the opening. The entire hat is of a natural light brown colour.
