Te atibu te nari
Te atibu te nari. Game throwing stone. This is part of a game called Te katua. It has been carved and ground from coral stone to form a small foot-ball like form. Its surface texture reveals small pores that are covered with a black residue. The surface colour overall is one of grey and off-white tones. It is heavy in weight. The game Te katua consists of two opposing teams facing each other. A log of te kani (coconut wood) would be placed horizontally across the centre of the pitch. Each team member will run to a certain mark with te atibu te nari and project it like a disc. Te atibu te nari must skim the log in order to make it to the far side. The further it goes the better.
