Te anima
Te anima. Bailer. This is a receptacle used and kept on te wa (canoe). It is made of wood from te ren (Octopus tree; Heliotropium arboreum; Messerschmidt argentea). The wood colour is a pale brown and it is light in weight as a result of its porous wood material. It has been cut and carved from the vertical grain of the wood. It is long in form. It features a carved cylindrical handle that tapers into the section that meets with the scoop of te anima. The scoop is low in depth and long in lenth. The cavity has been carved out, shows a rounded base that is not completely flat. The shape of te anima is a reflection of the shape of te wa. Two horizontal perforations feature inside the cavity of te anima. This would be used to scoop water from te wa, however it is said that the best te wa builders would not need them but all would have them. Considered a recent style.
