Te tanai. Hafted adze tool.Clam shell adze blade. This is an adze blade. It is a component of a tool used in cutting hard materials. It has been carved from te aubunga (clam shell; tridacna gigas). It is triangular in shape then tapers outwards in depth to form the sharp edge that would make contact when in use. The surface is smooth and dappled in tones of grey with an underlying off-white colour. A series of fine v-shaped ridges that define the shells lines of growth feature on the top surface area. A flat surface borders the base of the blade. The base surface is concave.
