Te mwae

Te mwae. Neck ornament. It is worn around the neck as part of body adornment. This is primarily worn by women and girls, particularly for the ruoia dances. This is made of a single, long string of alternating brown te nana (coconut shell) discs and off-white shell discs. These are strung on a two-ply te kora with each end loosely stringed together with a thin piece of sennit. This is tassled with seven short pieces of strings.
