Te pa

Te pa. Pearl shell trolling lure. The main shank of this pa is made from tifa fulu lupe (light coloured pearl shell) cut to include part of the hinge. The maga (hook point) is made from tua fonu (turtle shell). The components are lashed securely together with uka tuaina (twine) of light colour. An additional hackle of fulufulu moa (chicken feathers) is attached to the base of the pa, which are white in colour. It is ideal to have white fulufulu moa or akiaki (white tern, Gygis alba) to attract fish. A pa is used for trolling for pelagic fish such as bonito. This pa has additional fishing line length of uka tuaina attached.
