Round coconut leaf basket
The commencement is from four segments of coconut frond stripped longitudinally along centre stem with leaves attached. Closed and narrowed by removing three quarters of the leaf surface (from the outer edges). Additional leaflets are added after every two dextrals and every two sinistrals to make the work closer. The entire surface is plaited in horizontal twilled twos = benumoji 'going to the right'. Toward the bottom all the strips are doubled to reduce the number of working strips and to bring in the sides at the bottom. This is followed by another row where the strips continue in check plait across the bottom 'patch' and the ends are taken into a rolled braid that passes twice around the patch.
