Coconut leaf basket
Coconut leaf basket. Commencement at rim, but I suspect it was constrcted with rim down and basket plaited upward, as the rim appears to be a section of coconut frond that has been longitudinally split along stem and only one half circles around itself three times to form the upper rim. The leaves from these provide the sinistrals. Appears that perhaps the leaves from the other half segment from frond stem have been separated from the stem and inserted on the inside of the basket to provide the dextral plaiting strips. The basket appears then to have been constructed 'up' to the base and end tips of leaves plaited back into the body of the basket.
