- Tuhipoka mō te matenga
- Died during night flying and attempting to land on a flare path runway. After one unsuccessful attempt, on the second approach nose dived and the aircraft burst into flames. Time, 0310
The Broady diary refers to “Bridleways” as the training airfield, which seems to be a pseudonym for Wheaton Aston, no doubt for security reasons. Shawbury was the parent station, which is why Ted Doherty was buried there, with more than a few other trainees who died during training. Doherty is the only New Zealander.Public - Stella Mary - Researcher - 17 July 2019 - Research online - Urupā
