Kōrero taurongo
- John Dann was the son of A. J. and A. Dann, of 113 St. Albans St., St. Albans, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Next of Kin: Mrs A. Dann, Kanieri Falls, Hokitika (Roll of Honour, Auckland Province 1914-1918 (Volume 1)) AWMM - His family lived at Kaneiri Forks near Hokitika when he enlisted. His father had a gold claim there. Letters from France said "Nothing but mud and blood in the trenches. His regiment was wiped out and the few survivors were attached to the Waikato Mounted Rifles. His leave was postponed time after time". His mother worried her heart out over him. After his death "an official came out from Hokitika with the Governments condolences, and a bronze medal. We were all very sad. Poor mum - poor John, 19 years old". - from my father's memoirs.Public - Gavin Dann - Other Relative - 22 April 2015 - Ref: Autobiography A A Dann 1909 - 1988
