Tānoa. Kava bowl. tānoa are used in the preparation of the 'ava (kava) beverage for mixing the kava drink. Anywhere that 'ava is going to be served the tānoa will be used to prepare and distribute it. Made from wood, this tānoa is slightly different from the usual style Tānoa, it is turtle shaped and has the head, legs, and tail extending from the rim.
