'Uatogi

human history

'Uatogi. Ribbed club. This 'uatogi is made from one piece of toa (iron wood). The handle of this 'uatogi is cylindrical in shape. It is then wrapped in nine singular bands of 'afa (sennit) for better grip. At the base of the handle are two suspension holes, one of which has a small piece of twine threaded through it. The handle then widens to a flat four sided blade with a diamond cross-section. the blade is adorned with five carved bands. These bands are comprised of individual ribs. Where the handle meets the blade the band is made of three individual ribs. The remaining four bands each consist of five individual ribs. The 'uatogi is a type of 'au'upega (weapon of war) recognised for it's ribbed blade. The ribs are added to the blade not only to strengthen it but to make it much more lethal during combat.
