Ike. Bark cloth beater. Used for pounding and producing sheets of masi (bark cloth). Carved from solid kau (wood). Long and square in cross section with a tapered handle. Four-sided, with three sides with grooves spaced 2mm to 4mm apart. A line is horizontally incised around base of grooved sides of ike. One side is plain without grooves. Handle is lashed with magimagi (coconut sennit), tali tolu (3-ply) braid. Crack visible across handle. Dark brown in colour with glossy patina.
