Sedre Vonu

human history

Tanoa vonu. A kava bowl shaped like a turtle, carved from solid kau (wood) of a dark reddish brown colour with four legs carved out from the underside. All around the rim of the bowl are the carved appendages and head representing the turtle form, with the head of the vonu (turtle) broken off [due to be glued back on by Conservation staff]. Large crack running the length of the bowl as if it had broken previously and was glued back together. Bowl is oval in circumference and highly polished.
