Masi Kesa

human history

Masi Kesa. A long and rectangular piece of masi (bark cloth) beaten from Vuni Masi (Paper mulberry tree) and hand-stencilled designs applied to the surface of the masi in black ink to create a graphic, bold effect on the masi consisting of bars and chevrons of solid black coloured ink repeatedly placed across the width of the masi. The long sides of the masi are fringed. This Masi Kesa was likely to be intended for adornment.
