i Ula Drisi

i Ula. Throwing club. i Ula are carved from the rootstock of a hardwood tree. It is intended as a weapon that can be gripped in the hand or thrown in short range distances at assailants. This i Ula consists of a ball-shaped head and long slender adjoining handle. There is a small puncture hole at the top of the head. The underside of the head is carved flat around the commencement of the handle. The handle itself is cylindrical in shape with its lower area carved out in a tavatava (shallow incisions), zigzag in design. The butt of the handle is concave. The i Ula is a medium brown colour and has a glossy patina.
