Te kaneati

human history

Te kaneati. Bonito lure of pearl shells. This is made up of three components: te baeao (pearl shells), te ira n atu (human hair) and commercial string. The shank is of a lustre colour, marquise-shaped and thin in depth, possibly using an atitai (hard coral stone). At one end, a small circular form is cut out, whilst the other end has furrows to assist in lashing dark brown te ira n atu and a brown baeao point to the shank. This is done by securely wrapping a brown commercial string around the collective objects.
