Te tanai
Te tanai. Hafted adze tool. Clam shell adze blade. This is an adze blade. It is a component of a tool used in cutting hard materials. It has been carved from te aubunga (clam shell; tridacna gigas). It is convex and shaped like a trapezoid. The blade edge tapers to form an edged area for contact when in use. The centre of the blade features a large ridge line. The sides have been filed towards a flat base. It is off-white in colour with some discolouration resembling a yellow tone. The surface texture is flecked with some smooth areas.
