Santa’s workshop in the North Pole is very busy and noisy at this time of year – as you can imagine - and Santa has a lot of organising to do (toy orders, reindeer training schedules, sorting out ‘nice’ and ‘naughty’ lists!). So, for the second year we’ve offered him a special office space here at the Museum, and he’s jumped at the chance. He’s made himself right at home in a cosy room – and can’t wait to meet you in this southern base for a limited time only.
Because he’s travelling light, he doesn’t have his photographic gear, so make sure you bring your own phone or camera if you’d like to capture the moment.
Santa’s chief elf will be on hand to help or take an ’elfie. Each child will receive a Santa 'nice list' certificate and activity sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend arriving at the Museum at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time, to give you time to gain General Admission to the Museum and to find Santa’s Study, which is located in the galleries on Level 1.
Multiple families will be allocated to a 15-minute slot and each family will be admitted in order of arrival. We aim for you to wait no more than 15 minutes. There will be a Visitor Host outside the room who will let you know when to enter. Please aim to be at Santa’s study at or just before your allocated time.
Each family gets an exclusive visit with Santa in his Study. There will be enough time for a relaxed, short chat and a photo (approx. 3-4 mins).
Come up to Level 1. Santa’s Study is between Te Ao Tūroa (Māori Natural History Gallery) and Origins (where the dinosaur skeletons are). You’ll see a red carpet between these two galleries and a visitor host who will be able to assist you. You will need to gain general admittance to the Museum in order to enter Santa’s Study.
View the Level 1 Map here.
Each child will receive a stamped nice list certificate and Christmas-themed activity sheet during their visit.
Due to the size of Santa’s Study, we limit our family size to five people. If your family is larger than five, you can buy another family ticket in the same time slot to accommodate up to 10 people, but you won’t all be able to enter Santa’s Study at the same time. Children aged 1 and over require a ticket and are included in the maximum of five. There must be at least one adult per family group.
No. To keep the cost low for visitors, there will not be a photographer as part of this experience. Families are encouraged to take photos with their own device. Santa’s elf can take your photos with Santa if you’d prefer.
Tickets are very limited so to avoid disappointment, we advise you to book in advance. If there are any tickets available, these will be sold from the Museum entrance ticket desks.
Because of the space, you may need to leave your stroller outside. Our visitor host will let you know where to leave this.
Yes, wheelchairs are welcome in Santa’s Study.
