Letter from 'Reg' [Hugh Reginald Clark] to 'Dear Mother & Dad' from 'Reg', 29 May 1916
Letter to 'Dear Mother & Dad' from 'Reg' [Hugh Reginald Clark] dated 29 May 1916, writing from a 'gun-pit' somewhere in France. (3 leaves).
An extract from the text reads as follows:
"Dear Mother & Dad,
Have an hour or so to spare so am spending the time writing letters. I am ashamed to say I have been getting very careless with my correspondence lately – cannot seem to settle down to it. We have to stand to in readiness for action at short intervals and it interferes with our sleep as I usually try to get a couple or three hours in during the day.
We have not been doing a great deal of shooting since we came here only enough to let them know that we are still active. On the whole things have been very quiet in this part of the Firing Lines. Most of their shells pass right over our heads. Comparatively speaking only a few have landed close to me so you see there is very little need for you to worry."
